I enjoy the creative challenge of writing maths exams. This year, students in my Year 10, 11 and 12 classes have the option to enrol in short intensive preparation courses before their major school exams. In these courses they get to sit original papers that I have written and receive feedback to support their revision. These sessions will give students extra exam experience without the pressure of school marks, and help them accurately gauge and improve their understanding and preparation.
This year I will be writing the following papers:
Year 10 Half Yearly Examination
Year 10 Yearly Examination
Year 11 Yearly Examination
Year 12 Extension 1 Trial Examination
Early questions in these papers will check if students have good fundamentals, while questions towards the end will challenge students and require them to think deeply.
In the feedback process, I will address any gaps in their fundamentals, highlight common mistakes and teach problem solving strategies for the harder questions. I will share the thought process behind these strategies, helping students understand the logic behind their applications. I will also cover general exam techniques and provide advice on improving their mindset for high pressure exam situations.
I hope these short courses will further help students build their ability, confidence and a better understanding of the subject, while enjoying and learning from well crafted maths problems.
